Last Sunday our church had their semi-annual baby dedication service. This is a big deal for our church considering how many children we have as members. I have been to many'a dedication but never a participant.
We do baby dedication as a way to present our children to the Lord, just as Mary & Joseph and Hannah did in the Bible. It is a way for the parents to commit, before God and publicly, that they will raise their child in the ways of the Lord. It is an understanding, that we the parents are responsible for our child's spiritual well being. This was not something that Rooster and I took lightly.
We were asked to provide Pastor Tom a scripture that we wanted him to pray over our child. I love that it is this personal and the parents get to chose words from the living, breathing Word of God to be spoken over our children. Rooster and I chose Psalm 1:1-3.
Blessed is the man
who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked

Father, Carson has been yours from the beginning and he still is. Thank you for the awesome responsibility that you have given us. On Sunday, we committed to raise him in Your teachings and we will do our best. I pray that you guide us each day so that we may make Carson a mighty man of God and that he will meditate on Your Word and love you with his whole heart.
